(We are now home from our fabulous adventure, please enjoy the following posts-post return)
The mighty bear marks the way along our path through California. After ridiculous directions from a bagger at Safeway in Crescent City we found ourselves deep in the camp confines of Del Norte State Park: note to future bicycling travelers, this state park has extreme hills to ride in and out of the campground...push on further if you can!
THE MIGHTY REDWOODS+PAUL BUNYON+BABE THE BLUE OX=FUN TIMES!!!!!!!
We peddled in and out of the cool shade of the redwoods. Over peaks, valleys, and along coastal shores. Had a brief picnic outside of a gas station in Klamath, CA....a sad and intoxicating town on the outskirts of the fabulous Elk Prairie State Park. We were the only cyclists staying at the hike/bike....the sun bathed our bellies while we basked at our camp site, late evening walk yieleded no sightings of elk. A mass of children played chaotic soccer into the night.
All our gear prior to departure. The books that kept us on track and entertained throughout.
The charm and beauty of ocean hamlet Trinidad. We found the bicycle ride from Patrick's Point to Arcata one of our favorite stretches so far. Patrick's Point State park is also where we found remnants of fellow Salt Lake Travelers, deer behind caution tape, and a bag pipe infused sunset!
Arcata California...Thanks to Revolution bicycle shop for putting us up behind their store! We really enjoyed the mini BMX track. That night we wandered the town peeking into windows and photographing random buildings in night time shadows.
We also mistakenly wandered upon a vampire feeding on a helpless man! We're not kidding! I know it sounds crazy but we truly believe we saw the feeding with our own eyes. No image was taken due to the frighting reality of that moment....Back to the safety of our compound where we played a bit of human ring toss with old bicycle tires.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! No images of the fantastic explosions in the sky we witnessed. We traveled to Eureka, CA and splurged on a fancy Victorian hotel with a soft bed and roof top action. There upon the roof we marveled at the light show above the harbor while locals flooded the streets with libation and merriment for our county's birthday...alas the camera was left in the room.
........................More to come in future days, stay tuned...................................................................
